Despite the crossover domination, the so-called “Golf Class” is still a hugely popular segment in Europe. Drivers from this part of the world still appreciate such a fine balance of efficiency, performances and size. Therefore, several new models already came or will come in the near future. This includes big names like VW Golf, Skoda Octavia, Ford Focus etc. On the other side, the current generation of Megane has been around for about three years. Therefore, the company prepares an update, which will arrive with the 2021 Renault Megane. For this occasion, we are about to see a plethora of interesting changes, starting from a new styling, revised, dashboard and improved engine lineup.
2021 Renault Megane Exterior Changes
There is no doubt that the most notable will be those changes in terms of the styling. The 2021 Renault Megane is about to come with a plethora of interesting novelties, starting from a new fact. At the front, we count on several interesting novelties. The testing model has already been spotted and the camouflage clearly shows which parts of the vehicle will be revised. Naturally, the front end will come with novelties in areas like headlight, bumper grille etc. The rear end will come with novelties as well. We might see revisions on the tailgate, rear bumper etc. Finally, count on typical mid-cycle updates, such as new color options, new wheels etc.
Changes on the inside are expected as well. The testing model definitely rides with a cover on the dashboard. This clearly indicates that we are about to see novelties on it. Of course, details are still unavailable, but we may presume that major revisions won’t happen. A couple of tweaks are possible but the fact is that the current model already features a quite attractive cabin, which comes with all necessary features, including a large touchscreen interface and other tech goodies.
On the other side, the overall cabin layout will definitely remain the same. This model features a spacious and quite comfortable cabin, while the ride is pretty smooth. Still, the cabin insulation could be better, so this is another aspect where we could see some improvements.
2021 Renault Megane Engines
When it comes to the engine lineup, we might see some quite interesting novelties, especially when it comes to diesel engines. It looks like we are about to see a new 1.7-liter dCi unit, which debuted recently in the Kadjar. The engine delivers around 150 horsepower. Also, a good-old 1.5-liter dCi is expected to come in a new version, which is good for about 115 horsepower.
When it comes to gasoline engines, we expect to see a new 1.3-liter turbo engine, which is good for about 160 horsepower. the rest of the lineup should remain the same, including the hi-performance 1.8-liter engine that is reserved for the RS model.
Plug-In Hybrid and EV
Another possible novelty is Renault’s new plug-in hybrid system, based on a 1.6-liter gasoline engine, which comes paired with an 8.8-kWh battery pack. It is the same system that debuted in the new Clio. Of course, we presume that the 2021 Renault Megane would receive a slight power boost, though the exact numbers are still unavailable.
One of the most interesting things we have noticed is that one of the testing models doesn’t feature an exhaust system. This clearly indicates that Renault is testing an EV version of the Megane. When this is going to happen, it is hard to say at the moment.
2021 Renault Megane Release Date and Price
The 2021 Renault Megane could come already in the first half of 2020. We don’t expect to see any particular changes in price. The current model starts at around 14.000 Euro.
