Nissan is currently in the big process of renewing the entire SUV lineup. The new Rogue is here, while the Rogue Sport and Pathfinder are on the way. On the other side, the next-generation Murano will have to wait its turn and the new model probably won’t be ready for the next year. So, we expect that the current generation will remain in production for another year and that the 2022 Nissan Murano will be a typical carryover model. As we are probably talking about the final production year, it’s hard to expect any particular changes. Still, minor updates are always possible.
Despite the age, the current generation still has a couple of great things to offer. We like its spacious cabin, with plenty of room for passengers and cargo. Furthermore, we like its smooth ride, as well as a long list of standard and available equipment. A high safety score is also worth mentioning.
The probable lack of changes also means that we would see 2022 Nissan Murano sometime late in the year.
2022 Nissan Murano Redesign
Considering that the 2022 Nissan Murano will probably represent the final production year of the current generation, we expect no bigger changes. The overall layout will certainly remain the same. It hasn’t changed too much since the initial launch in 2015, but still has a lot of good things to offer. When it comes to ride quality, this model isn’t much different compared to other Nissan models that ride on a good-old D platform. Just like the bigger Pathfinder, this model offers a smooth and comfortable ride. On the other side, more ambitious drivers won’t find it too much fun to drive, but that’s the case with most crossovers of this size.
Visually, you may count on the same appearance that characterizes the current 2021 model year. Things haven’t changed too much since the initial launch, though the 2019 facelift has brought a couple of new things. We saw new LED lights, a new bumper design and a couple more minor updates.
The same thing goes for the interior design. We count on the same layout, which has both good and bad things to offer. When it comes to bad things, the dashboard design looks a little bit outdated. However, that doesn’t mean that the quality is bad. Moreover, things are actually pretty impressive in this aspect. You may count on soft-touch materials all around the cabin, as well as on leather and other fancy materials on higher trim levels.
On the other side, we definitely like the front seats, which are spacious, massive and supportive. The second row also offers plenty of space for passengers and accommodates adults with ease. Things aren’t that great when it comes to the cargo area. You may count on 32.1 cubic feet of cargo space with its rear seats upright and 67 cubic feet with these seats folded, and those are some of the lowest ratings in the class.
Minor changes in this aspect are always possible but we are pretty sure that most of the things are about to remain the same. Therefore, base models should come standard keyless entry, remote start, dual-zone climate control, an 8-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, four USB ports, satellite radio, and a six-speaker stereo. There are also options like navigation, moonroof, hands-free power liftgate etct.
When it comes to safety features, the current model comes standard with a rearview camera, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, front and rear collision warning, automatic emergency braking, automatic high-beam headlights. You can pay extra for upgrades like front and rear parking sensors, a surround-view parking camera system, road sign recognition, and adaptive cruise control.
2022 Nissan Murano Engine
Under the hood, the 2022 Nissan Murano should carry on in the same way. We count on a good-old 3.5-liter V6, which puts out around 260 horsepower and 240 pound-feet of torque, which is enough for decent driving dynamics. However, keep in mind that this engine comes in pair with CVT, so throttle response may seem a little bit dull to some.
An obvious benefit of this transmission is fuel economy. You may count on about 20 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway, which is pretty good for the class. On the other side, the max towing capacity goes just around 1.500 pounds, which is poor for the segment standards.
2022 Nissan Murano Release Date and Price
As bigger changes probably won’t happen, we expect that the 2022 Nissan Murano will hit the market sometime in the last quarter of the year. The price should remain pretty much unchanged, which means that base models will probably go around 33.000 dollars. Key competitors are models like Ford Edge, Honda Passport, Chevy Blazer etc.
