The current generation of Nissan’s flagship sedan has been around since 2015. So, it’s not hard to conclude that it’s pretty close to the end of its production cycle. However, the redesign won’t happen so soon and it’s pretty much for sure that the 2022 Nissan Maxima will carry on in the same way, featuring familiar design and features. Of course, minor updates are always possible, but we are pretty sure that most of the things will remain untouched.
Therefore, you may count on a large sedan that has a lot of good things to offer. We like its powerful engine, long list of standard equipment and user-friendly infotainment system. On the other side, we don’t like the fact that most rivals offer more space in the second row, while the cargo area is also below-average.
Considering that there are no bigger changes to come, we are pretty sure that the 2022 Nissan Maxima will arrive in a typical time of year, sometime in the last quarter of 2021.
2022 Nissan Maxima Redesign
As we’ve just mentioned, it is expected that the current generation will remain in production for some more time. Therefore, you may expect to see the 2022 Nissan Maxima with a familiar design. Of course, this sedan rides on a good-old D platform and with 109.3 inches in wheelbase, it is notably smaller compared to most rivals. This is particularly noticeable on the inside, but we will get to that later.
In terms of the styling, this model hasn’t changed too much since the initial launch. There was the 2019 refresh, but those updates weren’t particularly big. Logically, the 2022 Nissan Maxima should come with bigger changes either, though we shouldn’t exclude the possibility to see new color options in the offer and similar minor updates.
As we already mentioned, this is one of the smallest models in the class. Therefore, it’s no wonder that rear seats aren’t particularly impressive. Only two adults can accommodate there, though taller ones would probably have a little bit of trouble with headroom. On the other side, the front row is very spacious and comfortable, while we particularly like the seats, which are massive and supportive. When it comes to the cargo area, you may count on about 14.3 cubic feet, which is below average for the class.
On the other side, it is hard to find bigger complaints about the interior quality. Materials are really nice all-around the cabin, while the dashboard looks modern and upscale. More expensive versions even offer things like wood trim, which makes the cabin look pretty luxurious. Also, the list of standard equipment is pretty long, but we will get on that in a minute.
We could see some novelties in terms of the standard equipment for the next year, but we are pretty sure that the 2022 Nissan Maxima will continue with most of the things unchanged. For reference, the current model comes standard with goodies like dual-zone climate control, keyless entry, an 8-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, an eight-speaker stereo, satellite radio, navigation, voice recognition, Bluetooth, two front USB ports, and a Wi-Fi hot spot. If you’re willing to pay more, you can get things like a premium audio system, additional USB ports, a dual-panel panoramic moonroof and a power rear-window sunshade.
When it comes to safety, the current model comes standard with things like a rearview camera, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, forward and reverse automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, traffic sign recognition, and driver attention monitoring. Additionally, you can get a surround-view parking camera system, front and rear parking sensors, and rain-sensing windshield wipers.
2022 Nissan Maxima Engine
Under the hood, things definitely won’t change. Therefore, you may count on a good-old 3.5-liter V6, which features a max output of 300 horsepower. The engine comes in pair with a CVT gearbox and delivers more than a sufficient amount of power. The acceleration is pretty good but at the same time, fuel economy also seems quite decent. You may count on about 20 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. That’s about average for the class.
2022 Nissan Maxima Release Date and Price
Considering that there are no bigger changes to come for the next year, we expect that the 2022 Nissan Maxima will hit the market sometime late in the year. The price should also remain pretty much the same, which means that base versions should go around 37.000 dollars.
