The new generation of Nissan’s mid-size pickup is on the way, finally. After more than 15 years, the current second-generation model will be replaced. The all-new model will arrive in summer and it will bring tons of novelties. That vastly important, considering that compact pickups are getting more and more popular. We’ve already seen several all-new models recently, including the all-new Gladiator and the comeback of the Ford Ranger. The new generation will debut as 2022 Nissan Frontier and expectations are pretty big.
From what we know so far, the new model will stick with a familiar platform, which will be significantly updated in this case. There is a new engine, new design and improvements in terms of towing and hauling. Naturally, you may count on new aesthetics, new interior design and many more. Considering that the outgoing model is 15 years old, there’s no wonder that we are about to see tons of novelties in terms of tech and safety features.
2022 Nissan Frontier Redesign
The upcoming redesign will bring tons of novelties, which is no wonder considering that the current generation has been around since 2005. Interestingly, Nissan won’t introduce a completely new platform. Instead, we will see a familiar F-Alpha architecture, which will come with significant updates. Interestingly, even dimensions are about to remain pretty similar, including the wheelbase. On the other side, a completely new suspension setup will make a huge difference in terms of the ride quality and overall experience.
When it comes to the styling, the new model has already been presented. It shows a completely new look, which looks miles better compared to the outgoing model. Interestingly, the company decided not to follow the brand’s current design language. So, you won’t find too many similarities with other models in the lineup, including the recently updated Titan. Instead, the 2022 Nissan Frontier will feature a pretty unique look, which combines sharp lines with tons of futuristic elements.
This aspect will bring some of the most significant changes. The current cabin looks way too old by any standards. So, it’s not hard to conclude that the 2022 Nissan Frontier’s interior will look significantly better. The new dashboard looks far better, while we particularly like the fact that materials are far better compared to the outgoing model.
The new dashboard keeps that truckish look but also incorporates a couple of car-like elements. This should be one of the better-looking cabins in the class. Also, the list of standard and available equipment will be pretty long and it will make this cabin look even more upscale.
When it comes to the passenger space, the fact that dimensions are about to remain the same indicates that we may also count on the same amount of interior room. The 2022 Nissan Frontier will continue with two familiar cab styles in the offer – extended (Nissan calls it King Cab) and crew cab. The current crew cab model accommodates adults in both rows of seats pretty comfortably. On the other side, the Kind Cab model won’t be pretty generous in terms of the second-row space.
2022 Nissan Frontier Engine
The engine for the next-generation model was presented in the 2021 model year. It is a new 3.8-liter V6, which puts out around 310 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. It comes in pair with a 9-speed transmission and the numbers promise a lot of capability. Besides solid acceleration, we also count on decent max towing capacity. According to the latest reports, it will go around 6.900 pounds, which is okay but still way below class-leading ratings.
When it comes to fuel economy, we may presume that the ratings won’t be much different compare to the current model, which uses the same engine and features similar proportions. That would be around 18 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway.
At this point, it looks like there won’t be any other engine in the offer. Unlike most rivals that offer four-cylinder units in its base variants, the 2022 Nissan Frontier will come standard with six cylinders. Also, we don’t expect any kind of electrification in the near future.
From what we know so far, all models will come with Nissan Safety Shield 360 package, which includes blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, automatic high-beam headlights, lane-departure warning, and automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection. Additionally, you may count on options like adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, and a driver alertness monitor.
2022 Nissan Frontier Release Date and Price
According to the latest reports, the 2022 Nissan Frontier will hit the market this summer. It looks like the base price will go around 28.000 dollars, which seems quite affordable, considering the standard V6 engine.
