The new iteration of the iconic Z Car is finally coming and the new model will hit the market as the 2022 Nissan 400Z. Considering that the current generation has been around for a full 12 years, there is no doubt that we’ve been waiting for way too long to see the next generation. A good thing to know is that the new model will have a lot of great things to offer, while the even better thing is that all those goodies will come with a pretty affordable sticker price.

At this point, we know that the new model will look pretty close to the Z Proto concept. The styling and proportions should remain pretty much the same, while now it looks like the new model will definitely come with the long-awaited VR30DDTT engine, which powers the Infiniti Q60 coupe. Naturally, the interior will be significantly updated and we also count on a lot of upgrade options in the offer.

We expect to see the all-new 2022 Nissan 400Z sometime in the last quarter of the year.

2022 Nissan 400Z Redesign

Nissan designers have chosen a pretty interesting strategy for the new 2022 Nissan 400Z. Instead of building a completely new platform, they have significantly updated the well-known FM architecture. Although old, this platform still has a lot of things to show, especially if we look at the outgoing 370Z, which is still a relevant player in terms of handling and agility, 12 years after its launch. Of course, the platform will undergo significant updates and upgrades.

We are about to see a completely new suspension setup, as well as new brakes. Furthermore, the company promises a massive use of lightweight materials, which should make this coupe even lighter. From what we know so far, the new model is expected to come both as a coupe and as a convertible.

Styling and Interior

When it comes to styling, the latest reports suggest that the production version will look pretty much the same as the Proto concept. That’s definitely a fantastic thing to hear, as we are about to see a styling that closely resembles the legendary different generations of this icon. For example, the front end resembles the 270Z model, while the rear end has a lot of things in common with the 300ZX. Of course, all this comes in a modern package, so this sports car actually offers a nice mix of futuristic and retro elements.

The interior is a pretty similar story, as it combines classic design solutions with loads of the latest tech features. For example, the dashboard comes with a pretty simplistic layout, but also includes things like a digital instrument cluster, which will be standard across the range. We like that the center console is still full of physical controls.

2022 Nissan 400Z Engine

One of the most interesting parts of the new 2022 Nissan 400Z will be the engine. As it was rumored years ago, the new model will use a familiar 3.0-liter turbo V6 from Infiniti Q60. That version of the engine puts out around 400 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque, which sounds like a good measure for the new Z car. Of course, we count on a Nismo version as well, which should come with a slight power increase and other kinds of upgrades. Some sources suggest a max output of 450 horsepower.

All this power will be sent to rear wheels and a good thing to know is that there will be both manual and automatic transmission in the offer. Base models will use the same 6-speed manual gearbox as the outgoing 370Z, while a 9-speed automatic with torque converter will be offered as an option.

2022 Nissan 400Z Release Date, Price and Upgrades

As we already mentioned, the 2022 Nissan 400Z will probably hit the market sometime late in the year. We are still waiting to hear a more precise date from the Japanese manufacturer.

With the expected starting price of 35.000 dollars, there is no doubt that the new Z car will be a highly desirable sports car, especially if we consider all the things that you get for the money. The price tag will definitely be a huge advantage over more refined rivals, such as Toyota Supra and BMW Z4. Therefore, we believe that this coupe will rather compete with muscle cars like Mustang and Camaro.

The price will be pretty affordable and you will get a lot of things for the money. However, Nissan will also offer a couple of upgrade packages. For example, the Type S package will be all about performance and it will include features like Brembo brakes, thicker sway bars, beefier cooling. On the other side, the Type T package will be more about convenience, as it will include things like leather upholstery, heated and cooled electrically adjustable seats, automatic cruise control, blind-spot monitoring. Each package will cost additional $5.000 dollars. You may also count on the Type ST package, which will combine features of these two and cost an extra $10.000.
