The current generation of this capable SUV has been around for just about three years and we are already getting reports about a possible redesign. In most cases, this would sound strange but the fact is that this SUV is much older than it looks. This model is actually nothing more than a rebadged version of the more famous Nissan Patrol and the fact is that the internationally-offered SUV definitely isn’t a spring chicken. The current generation has been around since 2010 and it definitely needs updates. Therefore, we expect the same from the new Armada as well. At this point, it is just a speculation but we won’t be surprised if we see a complete 2021 Nissan Armada redesign.
This would mean changes in various aspects, starting from a new design, new technologies and, naturally, novelties under the hood. According to some reports, the new model could hit the market already in the second half of the next year.
2021 Nissan Armada Redesign
The 2021 Nissan Armada redesign is expected to bring a lot of novelties. Of course, one of the first things that come to mind is the platform. Interestingly, we won’t see a completely new architecture if we can rely on the latest reports. It looks like the Japanese manufacturer is going to stick to a proven F-Alpha platform, which underprints the current model. This seems expected, considering that the upcoming next-generation Frontier pickup truck is about the carry on with it as well.
Despite the age, this architecture is still pretty amazing in many aspects, particularly in terms of handling and overall driving characteristics. Still, that doesn’t mean it will remain untouched. Of course, it will undergo various revisions and one of the first that come to mind is weight reduction. We have no doubt that the new model will replace many steel parts with aluminum and other lighter materials. The expected weight reduction should be highly beneficial in terms of fuel economy and overall efficiency.
Numerous 2021 Nissan Armada changes are expected to come in terms of the exterior design. First of all, we count on completely new styling. The exact details are yet to come, but we may expect from the new model to take some inspiration from the recently refreshed Patrol in the Middle East. That version came with a completely new face, which looks quite attractive thanks to pretty futuristic details. Headlights are new, while the grille is bigger and higher, integrated with a new bumper as well.
Those could be directions in which the new model could go. When it comes to dimensions, we probably won’t see more significant changes. The new model may get an inch or two in the wheelbase, but keep in mind that the current model is already pretty spacious and features quite large cargo area.
This is where Armada definitely needs updates. This particularly refers to tech features, as the current model features a pretty outdated infotainment system. The new model may get the same dual-screen setup we can find in Infiniti models, but some reports are suggesting a completely new system, based on a single but much bigger screen. Other than the lack of tech features, the current model looks pretty good. It benefits from the fact that most of the parts have been borrowed from the luxurious Infiniti QX80, so the overall interior quality is actually on a pretty high level.
Also, all three rows are comfortable and spacious. Also, we like the fact that there is a long list of safety features, as well as that the cargo area is pretty big. All in all, the expectations for the new model are pretty big.
2021 Nissan Armada Engines
As we already mentioned, the 2021 Nissan Armada will stick to the familiar F-Alpha platform. In terms of powertrain, this means that we probably won’t see any form of electrification in the new model. We presume that the 2021 Nissan Armada will carry on with a familiar 5.6-liter V8, which currently delivers around 390 horsepower. Of course, we would expect to see a slight power boost for this occasion, as well as revisions that would make it a little bit more fuel-efficient.
Speaking of fuel efficiency, we could see some pretty interesting novelties with this 2021 Nissan Armada redesign. There is a chance that the new model will also come in a version with a V6 engine, certainly turbocharged. More details should be known soon.
2021 Nissan Armada Release Date and Price
The 2021 Nissan Armada redesign is still just a rumor. We are still waiting to hear something from the officials on this matter. Until then, keep everything aforementioned with a reserve. When it comes to the price, we may presume that the new model wouldn’t cost much more than the current version, which would mean between 45.000 and 50.000 dollars for the base model. Key competitors will remain the same. Those would be models like Chevy Tahoe, Toyota Sequoia, Ford Expedition etc.
