Nissan will try with another approach with its Versa model. The previous model didn’t deliver the expectations. For that reason, the 2020 Nissan Versa is coming with a redesign. Interestingly, Nissan chose the music festival at Florida to present the newest subcompact sedan and not an auto show. The previous generation of popular sedan didn’t look as nearly attractive as the new-gen model.
The redesign includes more dramatic styling and new interior design. Versa will borrow plenty of stuff from Nissan Altima model. Under the hood, 2020 Versa will deploy a 1.6-liter four-cylinder unit. Front-wheel-drive will be standard and CVT transmission will be optional.
2020 Nissan Versa Looks Modern
The upcoming 2020 Nissan Versa will look more appealing than its predecessor. The new-generation model will introduce an exterior redesign. Only a few styling cues will remain, which includes a larger V-Motion grille up front. The rest of the exterior will be new. Versa will borrow plenty of cues from the Nissan Altima model.
Nissan is clearly aware that the Altima is one of the best-looking sedans out in the market. The taillights will be almost the same and the roofline is higher than before. Dimensionally, Versa will stay the same. Some speculations suggested a new platform, but that won’t happen. The front end will host the brand-new headlight units and the hood will look sharper.
Interior Is Tech Rich
Even the interior will borrow a lot of cues from the Altima. The 2020 Nissan Versa will offer a similar dashboard design and flat-bottom steering wheel. The touchscreen is unique and new. This unit will sit in the dash this time. The infotainment system is up to date and it supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
However, both phone integrations are optional. Comfort is great and subcompact sedan offers a surprisingly generous rear-seat legroom. Nissan will also improve the safety rating. The 2020 Versa will now offer systems such as lane departure warning, emergency braking, and auto high beams. Optionally, you can get blind spot monitoring and adaptive cruise control.
2020 Nissan Versa Engine and Transmission System
There won’t be a new platform so the front-wheel-drive configuration will remain. Also, the same 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine will be in the offer once again. However, previous Versa offered 109 horsepower and the 2020 Nissan Versa will produce 122 hp. On top of that, 114 lb-ft of torque is a slight improvement as well.
A 5-speed manual gearbox comes as standard but CVT transmission will be optional. We are still waiting for Nissan to release more details about the trim levels. Optional all-wheel-drive setup and CVT gearbox will be standard on the range-topping models for sure. Generally, Nissan did a great job in the engine department. The 2020 Versa delivers more power now and it offers a smoother ride.
Price and Release Date
One thing that we didn’t mention about the Versa model is its affordable price. The current model is one of the most affordable cars sold in the U.S. The 2020 Nissan Versa will cost slightly more. We expect the price to start at $14,000.
The subcompact sedan will go on sale this summer. Interestingly, its biggest rival, Toyota Yaris, will introduce a new hatchback variant.
