The 2020 Nissan Leaf is announced and it will bring vast of improvements. A company’s first all-electric car will see a couple of refreshments and improvements in almost every category. The new model is based on the IDS concept.
It looks sporty and the interior will get new technology amenities. The drivetrain is slightly revised which means more power and better range.
2020 Nissan Leaf redesign
We’ve had an opportunity to look at some of the spy shots and changes are visible. Over the years, the overall Leaf’s look departed from the first-generation. The same will continue in 2020 because Nissan brings new styling cues each and every year. However, the exterior design is unique which is a good thing.
The new model will gain more sportiness and the appearance is modern. New redesign starts up front where the headlights are slimmer and V-shaped grille is larger. The bumper looks sporty and it adds larger air intakes and daytime running lights. The hood features some more creases and is sculpted a bit so it perfectly matches the front fascia.
The side profile shows us how the bubbly design is gone and the 2020 Nissan Leaf now looks more like a hatchback. The rear end will remain the same, and the two-tone color scheme is available.
2020 Nissan Leaf interior design
The interior will also get some refreshing changes. For the start, the overall interior design is cleaner and it adds more premium materials and high-tech features. The dash is new and it holds a three-tier design and beautiful flowing lines. The center stack is wider and a 7-inch infotainment display is all-new.
The instrument cluster is simple as before, however, some customers will freak out over the huge amount of buttons. The dash, steering wheel, seats and door panels are coming with a blue stitching. Matte chrome finishes and glossy shades of black are also all over the cabin. When it comes to the high-tech amenities, Apple Car Play and Android Auto are available.
Navigation is standard and there is a new Nissan’s intelligent platform that adds Nissan Connect system. The new battery pack will be rearranged cargo area and will increase the cargo capacity up to 23.8 cubic feet.
2020 Nissan Leaf engine and battery
One of the Nissan’s main goals were to improve driving range of the Leaf model. The first model provided 73-mile range and the range was additionally raised to 107 miles. That is still far from the Tesla’s 220 miles. Now, the 2020 Nissan Leaf will get another significant improvement, however, it is still far from the Tesla’s figures. New Leaf will offer 150 miles of ride on a single charge, which is a 40 percent increase.
The new battery is there and will provide 40-kWh capacity. So, improved drivetrain output can now produce up to 147 HP and 236 lb-ft of torque which is another great improvement. You can charge the 2020 Leaf in 16 hours via the 3kW outlet.
2020 Nissan Leaf price and release date
The great news for the Leaf’s fans as the price will stay intact. Even the numerous improvements didn’t increase the overall price, so the upcoming model 2020 Nissan Leaf will cost $35,000.
That is $5,000 less than the Tesla Model 3 and 7,500 than the Chevy Bolt. This electric car will go on sale at the beginning of 2020.
