The market is getting full of crossovers and SUVs. Mitsubishi will follow the customer’s needs and it will offer a new 2020 Mitsubishi Lancer. Mitsubishi already turner its Eclipse car into a crossover. Now, the same will happen with the Lancer hatchback. According to Mitsu, next-gen Lancer will arrive as the crossover SUV.
The Japanese manufacturer said that the company needs a quite radical approach and Eclipse won’t arrive as the conventional hatchback. Whatsoever, new 2020 Lancer will probably arrive with the coupe-style roof. On top of that, a two-door version could be in the offer as well. Interior will introduce plenty of new techs and hybrid drivetrain is another huge possibility.
2020 Mitsubishi Lancer Exterior Will Be Based On The E-Evolution Model
In recent years, Mitsubishi unveiled so many concepts and most of them were crossovers. For the same reason, the new 2020 Mitsubishi Lancer could be based on one of the concepts. For the start, this crossover will ride on the CMF C/D platform. The same platform will support the new e-Evolution model. More importantly, this architecture can accommodate a hybrid system and it offers a four-wheel-drive system.
As for the exterior, Lancer will look very aggressive. Front fascia sports a very interesting design. The headlights extend the entire width of the crossover. LED strips are looking long and very modern. The bumper is another aggressive feature. Wide front fenders and modern grille are also looking interesting. The rear end comes with the recognizable multi-tier design. P-shaped taillights are very upscale and sharp. A two-door variant is a possibility for the new Lancer. Also, a coupe-style roof will be one of the highlights of the exterior design.
Interior details are not available yet. However, we will take a bold guess and say the 2020 Mitsubishi Lancer is based on the Eclipse Cross model. Most of the features will be similar if not the same. Lancer will offer upscale interior design and comfort will be great. You can expect a modern look with better plastic materials and trims.
On top of that, chrome accents will be present. Lancer will offer large infotainment display and modern-looking instrument cluster. The 2020 Lancer will probably get new technology that isn’t in the Mitsubishi’s offer yet. On the other hand, if Mitsu plans to put Lancer in a more premium segment, we can expect the only luxury.
It will be interesting not to see a hybrid drivetrain in the all-new 2020 Mitsubishi Lancer. For now, everything is just a speculation, at least for the performance category. Eclipse Cross model could provide us another hint. Eclipse Cross and Lancer will probably share at least one engine option. That means 1.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline that generates 152 horses and 184 lb-ft of torque could be a standard engine.
Optionally, a 2.2-liter turbodiesel that produces 130 HP and 200 lb-ft of torque is another certain outcome. However, the hybrid drivetrain is the biggest question about the Lancer model. A pair of larger electric motors and battery pack will be coupled with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine. This output will return at least 220 horsepower and the all-electric range will be rated at 29 miles. CVT transmission and the four-wheel-drive setup are also in the offer.
2020 Mitsubishi Lancer Price and Release Date
There is still plenty of mystery with this model. New 2020 Mitsubishi Lancer could arrive as a sporty and taller hatchback or as a crossover SUV. Another mystery is Mitsubishi’s plans about the Lancer.
If the Japanese manufacturer plans to put new Lancer in the premium segment, the price will be drastically higher. We expect the price of around $26,000. This crossover will hit the markets in the last quarter of 2020.
