Hearing the latest news about 2019 Mitsubishi Evolution future was quite surprising. It looks like the iconic hi-performance sedan has become a history. After more than 25 years, the famous street racer ends its production.
Through all these years, we have seen numerous versions of it. Spread through several generations, there is 10 version of this amazing sports car which was always characterized by a potent 2.0-liter turbo inline-four and AWD layout. The last version was in production for a pretty long time and it ends its production along with the base Lancer model.
After a year of break, the famous nameplate seems to be rumored as a name for a completely different model. It looks like the 2019 Evolution is about to become a crossover, which is kind of a surprise for all Evolution lovers. Still, if we consider the company’s new policy, this is something that many of us would expect.
2019 Mitsubishi Evolution redesign
So, what’s the deal with the new 2019 Mitsubishi Evolution? You have probably heard about Mitsubishi’s plans for the future. The famous Japanese manufacturer came with a completely new strategy for the future. In these plans, there is no place for sedans and hatchbacks, neither for sports cars or classic body-on-frame SUVs. The upcoming models from the company will all be crossovers. Surprised or not, you must admit that this seems like a logical move if we consider company’s capacities that definitely can’t follow all segments that Mitsubishi used to cover.
So, what we are going to see with the new 2019 Mitsubishi Evolution? The Japanese manufacturer presents a concept of a completely new crossover and named it e-Evolution. From the prefix, you can easily conclude that it’s about electrified powertrain. On the other side, the styling looks pretty attractive. If we look at the pictures, we can notice that the company is counting with a variety of styles. Of course, the focus is on the futuristic approach, though there are many other styling elements in the game. As you may presume, there is a bit of the brand’s current design language, in traces. Also, count on a lot of chrome details, which became Mitsubishi’s trademark in the last decade.
When it comes to the interior design, it is hard to say anything at the moment. Most likely, even the company doesn’t have a complete picture of how the new cabin should look like. For now, we can only say that we expect a lot of futuristic details, as well as a whole bunch of new tech features.
2019 Mitsubishi Evolution powertrain
The recent concept was named as e-Evolution. It’s not hard to make a conclusion that this is a crossover that features electrified powertrain. The new 2019 Mitsubishi Evolution will most likely be a hybrid car.
The company recently updated Outlander with a new hybrid powertrain and we expect to see a similar system in the new crossover as well. You probably heard that Outlander’s new powertrain gets a bigger 2.4-liter engine, as well as more powerful electric motor and battery capacity. Also, the company claims autonomy improvement. If the new 2019 Mitsubishi Evolution gets the same powertrain, we could expect some power increase. After all, many reports suggest that this would be a performance crossover, in accordance with the famous nameplate.
Also, it is still unclear will this be the only engine option, or we are about to see internal-combustion versions as well. It is quite possible to see some of the company’s gasoline engines in the offer as well, maybe even some V6 power. On the other side, a diesel unit is quite possible on the European market.
2019 Mitsubishi Evolution release date
So far, we don’t have any information about possible release date or something like that. If you want to rely on rumors, count that the new 2019 Mitsubishi Evolution could come already in the next year. Still, we would take this with a big dose of a reserve.
