Coupe crossovers are getting more and more popular and, of course, Infiniti wants its piece of share. That’s why there is the brand-new 2022 Infiniti QX55. It comes as a sportier iteration of the compact QX50, which is the brand’s best-selling model at the moment. Of course, expectations from the new model are pretty big, though the competition is really hard. In this segment, some of the key players are models like BMW X4, Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe etc. The Japanese manufacturer will have a hard task to attract a wide range of buyers.
Although a completely new model, it still comes with a number of familiar characteristics. This particularly refers to the base design, so it’s no wonder that the ride quality is pretty similar to the QX50. Most of the mechanics are the same, including the suspension setup. On the other side, styling definitely makes the difference and should be one of the strongest selling points in the future. Things like interior and powertrain are the same.
2022 Infiniti QX55 Design
As we’ve just mentioned, the overall design isn’t much different compared to the more conventional counterpart. The two models use the same underprintings. The wheelbase is the same, as well as the suspension setup. Therefore, it’s no wonder that the driving experience is pretty similar. Although sporty-looking, this model is rather on the soft side in terms of ride quality. So, more ambitious drivers definitely won’t find this model particularly fun to drive.
On the other side, this is a fantastic choice for all those who care about styling. The new sloping roof looks perfect in a combination with Infiniti’s well-known sleek and curvy approach. In our humble opinion, this is one of the best-looking models around, at least when it comes to compact crossovers.
There’s nothing unfamiliar you can find inside this crossover. Simply, things are pretty much the same as in the QX50, at least when it comes to the dashboard and front part of the cabin. This means that you may count on a pretty good overall cabin, which really looks premium. The materials are great. You can see nice upholstery, soft plastics and a few fancy materials like chrome and wood. The build quality is great.
Logically, the 2022 Infiniti QX55 offers less interior space than its cousin. At the front, things are pretty much the same and you may count on plenty of seats and some of the best front seats in the class. The second row is generous in terms of legroom, but taller passengers may find little trouble with headroom, due to the sloping roof. For the same reason, the cargo area doesn’t offer some spectacular numbers. You may count on about 26.9 cubic feet of cargo space behind its rear seats and 54.1 cubic feet of the total volume. That’s typical for a coupe crossover.
When it comes to standard equipment, all QX55 models come standard with tech goodies like dual-zone climate control, keyless entry, remote sunroof, 8- and 7-inch touch screens, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, four USB ports, a six-speaker stereo, satellite radio, and a Wi-Fi hot spot. A sunroof is also on the list of standard equipment. Optionally, you can get things like tri-zone climate control, a navigation system and a 16-speaker stereo.
When it comes to safety features, all models come with a rearview camera, rear parking sensors, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, and automatic high beams. If you’re willing to pay extra, you can also get things like front parking sensors, a surround-view parking camera system, a head-up display, road sign recognition, adaptive headlights, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, and the ProPilot Assist system.
2022 Infiniti QX55 Engine
The 2022 Infiniti QX55 comes with a familiar 2.0-liter turbo-four, which puts around 268 horsepower. That’s a pretty solid amount of power, which ensures more than decent driving dynamics. However, it comes with a CVT gearbox, which kills the excitement. So, what you get is a crossover that’s perfect around two, but which struggles on the highway, due to a little bit slower throttle response. Also, handling isn’t particularly engaging, so we can rather call this model a comfy cruiser than a dynamic sporty coupe crossover.
On the other side, a good thing about CVT is fuel economy. This crossover returns around 22 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway, which is higher compared to most rivals with similar engine power.
2022 Infiniti QX55 Release Date and Price
The 2022 Infiniti QX55 already debuted and it is available at 47.000 dollars. As we already mentioned, the competition is pretty tough and includes mostly German premium models. We already mentioned models like BMW X4 and Mercedes GLC Coupe, but there are also models like Jaguar F-Pace, Porsche Macan etc.
